Arneo is a land rich in stone, precious raw material for the construction of the dry walls. Stone found in various coastal towers present in the area and in the "Crushers Hypogeum" that testify to the old production process of olive oil.
The Archaeological Site of overriding importance is "The Crypt of Favana" or Furana in Veglie. This is a rock medieval settlement, from to the ninth century, of Greek-Eastern origin. Located at the convent of the Franciscan monks, adjacent to the municipal cemetery, is full of frescos representing Byzantine saints.
We find evidence Byzantine and Renaissance architecture and prehistoric evidence, in the park of Porto Selvaggio, at Nardò. In nearby Porto Cesareo we find "SCALE DI OF FURNU” a hall where Roman finds can be admired from different historical periods.
